Inspiration from an unexpected place; Vegas Carpets

How decor can influence fashion !

I recently watched a video investigating the Circus Circus resort in Las Vegas, and whether people are still intrigued by the glamour of Vegas. What did intrigue me was the funky designs on the casino carpet floors, this is a screenshot from the video I watched. I immediately thought that the circular patterns reminded me of a certain style of maxi skirts and cami tops that were popular in the early noughties. The pattern next to it has a different aesthetic, but I still think it could be used as a design for a garment.

The pattern on the left gave me an idea the create a pair of flares the incorporate that pattern, in a way that pays homage to the original source of inspiration, but also gives it a modernised feel. The cards and chips pattern reminds me of a pin up corset I used to own from Hell Bunny and I think it is reminiscent of the Hell Bunny brand identity. If I was to buy material that had a similar style to this carpet, I would either use it to make a corset, with a tule high- low skirt attached, or a 50s style circle skirt with a sweetheart neckline, corseted back and black tule around the hem of the skirt.

Upon further inspection, I noticed that a lot of Vegas casinos have psychedelic or art deco style patterns on their floors. Apparently, this is both the conceal the chips or stains that are left on the floor and to maintain alertness by keeping them awake (I don't think this would work on me as I'd be too mesmerised by the swirls notice the machines!)

This carpet caught my attention, because it reminds me of something you would wear as a cover-up by the pool, a William Morris painting and the lining of a blazer all at the same time. If I were to use material with a pattern like this, I would want to make use of the bright colours so I would most likely turn it into a wide legged jumpsuit, with a firm structure to it, making it playful but smart at the same time.
